Just one of those days!

Just one of those days!

Just one of those days!

Just one of those days!

Straight from kick off Stanningley seemed most eager to the ball. It took just 5 minutes to register our first shot, this was via a penalty after a clumsy challenge from the Queensbury defender.
Megan took the duty, but the keeper stood strong to make the save.

Stanningley continued playing the better football and carving out opportunities. The Queensbury keeper was also having a very good day.

We continued to mount multiple moments in attack, but the last line of Queensbury defence were somehow just managing hanging on, on another day we would have been well ahead. Safe to say Stanningley was in control!

Stanningley pressure did pay off on 20 minutes with Megan scoring after securing possession from broken play ⚽️. Queensbury 0 - 1 Stars.

At this point we seemed to start relaxing and the earlier stanningley dominance turned into more of a tug of war.

When Queensbury moved with the ball they seemed to surrounded the ball with multiple players, we started matching them and this helped create confusion, pull our players out of position which then blocked our own play, in the last 5 minutes of the half our controlled urgency turned into sheer panic.

Even with this amount of pressure our defence was on top, working hard but managed to keep things contained.

5 minutes before half-time a rare shot at goal from Queensbury just managed to squeeze into the right side of our goal ⚽️. This really shocked us! Queensbury 1 - 1 Stars

At halftime we spoke about staying in position and wanting to get to the ball quicker.

Straight from the kick off it was Queensbury who seemed to have the most urgency and they were starting to grow in the game. We got drawn into the congestion again and this suffocated our own play.

3 minutes in, it was Queensbury who struck first. Scoring to take the lead, through a very unfortunate bounce in the free kick that just managed to squeeze past Jess⚽️. Queensbury 2 - 1 Stars.

After the restart, Queensbury were specifically trying to cause congestion again on purpose. Our defence was working overtime and helping regain some order by starting to link play from deep on the pitch.

Stanningley staring to grow now and saw lots of the ball, but on the 53rd minute Queensbury scored a worldie of a long range shot to increase their lead⚽️. Queensbury 3 - 1 Stars.

Would there be another twist in this story?

Yes of course, on 61 minutes, a now more purposeful and aggressive Stanningley we’re taking control again and forced pressure on the Queensbury defence, who saw a missed pass pounced upon by Mille to smash the ball home⚽️. Queensbury 3 - 2 Stars.

For the remaining time, our girls were in complete control and Queensbury were just managing to hold on, somehow!

During this time we managed another 4 shots and some beautiful attacking play. However the ball just wouldn’t go past their keeper, who was the player of the match in my eyes.

Final whistle, Queensbury 3 - 2 Stars.

Today we had 14 shots vs Queensbury’s 4. Just one of those days ?

It’s a real statement of how far this team has grown when they come off the pitch and are able to reflect on some of the things that went well, and some of the things that could have helped change the game. In an un biased and un blaming environment.

Well done, what a team!

Please read this report back to your players and help them understand just how well they have played and how much they have grown, we will learn from this and will grow even stronger!
